Lovely spots in Marrakech
Hello guys!
A few months ago, together with my boyfriend I visited Marrakech - one of the most charming places I’ve ever been. This city is the perfect visual affair and if you are a creative one it will definitely be a big inspiration.
Medina, the old town is so busy and vibrant with little streets around the souk, beautiful colors, architecture, spices, carpets, lamps all combined with the sound of prayer and lots of cats . As you may all notice I have a strong love for photography and this city was the perfect destination for me. Marrakech is very walkable, with almost every location accessible by foot. We were quite great with getting the right directions so it wasn’t that difficult to navigate.
I find it so hard to chose some places in Marrakech to write about because there are so many great spots each one with a different history and beauty.
I hope you’ll get inspired by my recommendations!
Riad Berbere
A riad with a secret garden at its heart! I was so lucky to spend my birthday there. This place is like a fairytale with orange and banana trees, cats, turtles and a little pool at the center of the courtyard. I totally recommend this place if you're searching for refreshing spot after the dynamic Medina. You can make an appointment and serve dinner in the garden or have some drinks on one of the rooftop terraces at sunset. The food is very tasty and organic.
La Mamounia
The Instagram star and I can see why :)
A palace hotel just outside the Medina with stunning design a mix of beauty and luxury. The hotel was build in 1923 and redesigned in 2009 by the French designer Jacques Garcia. It has one of the best gardens in the world, beautiful spa and lots of inspiring designs made with mosaic and marble. As an artist I was so happy to see a lot of art and photography, they host large scale exhibitions of modern art.
Riad El Fenn
I was fascinated about the unique interior design of this place. Combining historical architecture, decorative art design with hidden gardens and a perfect rooftop I felt there like Alice in wonderland. I loved all the details and it’s a place where I definitely go back in my next trip to Marrakech.
Jardin Secret
You can put on top of your list this haven of Medina, one of the oldest riads and part of the great tradition, there you can find a museum with historical information about Marrakech’s architecture, two cafes, a boutique book shop, one of the highest towers of the Medina and two wonderful gardens. The design of the botanical paradise was made by Tom Stuart Smith that divides the garden into two courtyards: The Islamic Garden and The Exotic one, where you can find a variety of species of trees, flowers and plants.
Riad Be
From the outside all houses are the same sand color style and you have no idea what is hidden inside. This is a charming riad with a mosaic pool, lovely design, cats, a litttle turtle and lots of colors. I loved every corner!
Palais Blanc
A perfect transition from the chaotic souks to the calm, white, paradise of silence.
Majorelle Garden
Named after its founder, the French painter Jacques Majorelle who created in 1937 the intense cobalt ultramarine color, which is this place's perk. He built his house in Art Deco design with an artist studio at the ground floor of the house and magical botanical gardens inspired by Islamic design with hundreds of exotic species of plants and bamboo forest structures around the central pond. Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent felt in love with this oasis and in 1980 they bought and saved it from becoming a hotel complex. They restored the house and named it Villa Oasis with the gardens respecting the vision of the artist. There are two museums there, the YSL museum and the painter’s studio that has been transformed into a museum dedicated to Berber culture. In 2008 after Yves passed away, his ashes were scattered in the rose garden of the Villa Oasis.
